Texas executes 400th inmatewww.cnn.com/2007/US/08/22/texas.execution.reut/index.htmlNice going Texas! The only problem is that he sat there wasting our tax dollars for 8 YEARS!! That's what's wrong. We've got to kill these people faster. There are people that just deserve to die because they're not contributing to our society. If you're just a waste and a drain on good American people, I want you gone! 38 states have the death penalty? It will be all 50 plus provinces when I'm president. "...opponents who argue that the practice is inhumane and does not serve as a deterrent to crime." Deter crime?! That's not the point. I want to rid them of the pain they cause good people. That's the point of the death penalty.

One dead innocent under the death penalty is a TERRIBLE failure for the whole system, and Taxes has had it's fare share inspite of the large amounts of appeals allowed.
Imagine if you cut it down.

It costs more to execute a convicted criminal than it does to lock them up for life.

I find that hard to belive, i mean a perosn say lives to be 90 @ 5 dollars a day to eat so 90*365*5 is ? 164,250 dollars now mind you that is just food that is not room and board the eletric and the water for the showers i'm sure that number will triple or quardouptle?sp? when you add evething in. Death ? maybe a few hundrerd for the needle or a few bucks on a good rope? j/k but serioulsy i dont see how it coudl cost mroe to kill then to live price of a good bullent is what a quater?

The bulk of the cost having an active Capital Punishment system is the legal fees leading up to said execution. There should be caps set for lawyers on these cases. Lawyers look for more out of each case than just the paycheck...fame...recognition. That's why some lawyers do pro bono work. They don't get anything out of that except for the warm fuzzies of helping somebody out and the public sees them as a real swell fella. But back to the topic at hand. I did a search on and had the expected results. All the web sites opposing the death penalty placed inprosonment costs between 17-20K per year for inprisonment, while pro-DP sites placed it between 22-29K per year. And then the extra $14 Mil in legal fees for the constant appeals and extra court time pursuing the death penalty. The old west had it right I tell ya. "Judge, I saw Jim Bob shoot him." "Me too judge.' <GAVEL SMACK> "GUILTY! Drag him out back and bring me the rope!" Need to cut down on the time between sentencing and execution of the...exe...cution as well. Put like a 180 day cap or something on it. Blah blah blah...what if it's the wrong guy...yada yada. In these days of forensics and DNA...the likelihood of these things happening is miniscule. Heck, if you look at some cases, being sent to prison for some folks IS a death sentence. How many child molesters/murderers and people who mistreat the elderly do you see come out of prisons in body bags? Several. But that's another story....

If DNA evidence shows that without a shadow of a doubt a person is guilty of murder, then as soon as the judgement is made then the guilty should be taken to the chair. Why should my tax dollars be used to pay for cable for some murderer? Richard Speck (killed eight student nurses in the 60's) lived it up in prison for 19 years until he died of a heart attack. 19 years longer than his victims. He shouldn't have lived more than 5 minutes after he was found guilty. (and he was guilty)
