www.foxnews.com/wires/2007Aug20/0,4670,DrunkenDrivingDeaths,00.html 13,470 alcohol-related driving deaths last yearThis is just stupid. Some of these people that died were not even drinking. They were just driving home to their kids when some drunk smashed into their car. Or some kid dies when a drunk hops the curb. If you're that stupid to put your life and someone else's life at risk because you're drinking and driving... I'd rather have you dead than someone else. And I've got no problems with the death penalty. It will be used extensively when I'm the president. I don't want to waste honest, hard-working tax-payers' money on keeping these idiots alive in prison. I'd rather just kill them. They don't deserve to live anyway. And I'll take all the blame in the "afterlife". As long as this country is made safer and better for the good people. So this has to change. We need to make our roads safer from these idiots. There will be more stringent penalties (jail time, losing your license for years, death - all depending on the circumstances). We'll figure something out to fix it. It has to change.

It'll be impossible to get ANY Congress to vote in a law to make an unpremeditated murder punishable with death.

It'll be impossible to get ANY Congress to vote in a law to make an unpremeditated murder punishable with death. This is true. But these people are representatives of the people. And if the people believe in something, it's their job to carry out those wishes. Bottom line: we've got to do something about it.

This is something that technology itself will help you out without any need for criminal legislation, everyday there's news about a car or something that could detect if the driver has been drinking and prevent him from driving by cutting off the engine. So you just have to be patient... and in 15 years I'm pretty sure that technology will be very functional and effective.

Indeed...and according to science from when I was a kid, we're all supposed to be flying cars right now. There's ways those will be defeated just like everything else. Keep the window down...have your LESS inebriated buddy blow into the tube...can of compressed air...whatever. There'll be ways those will be countered. Make it less and less survivable financially/sociologically (is that even a word? lol) /and legally. That way when Joe Schmoe IS nabbed for DUI at a checkpoint, during a traffic stop, or God forbid during response to his plowing through a group of kids walking home from a football game, his life is more likely to be ruined besides those who's lives he has taken himself. How many times have you seen an accident (see this www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y2lhkCQkhu8 and TRY not to get the chills) where the drunk who caused it walks away while everybody else involved is taken off in an ambulance or coroner's truck? It's bullshit I tell ya

I honestly believe that if you are caught driving a vehicle while drunk, you should be tried for attempted murder. No joke. Driving a 2,000+ lb vehicle in and of itself is a danger, at any one moment if you swerve the wrong way, people could die. thats why they have a minimum driving age. the 'government' would like to think that by 16 people have enough sense to pay attention to the task of driving. not eating, changing cd's, putting on makeup etc. thats a whole different matter though.....But trying to drive while drunk is just plain stupid. How many times have you been drunk? I know for me its been quite a few. and each time i KNOW im drunk. its not like its some sort of mystery where all the sudden BAM you get drunk. its a conscious decision to drink, just like its a conscious decision to drive while drunk. try them bastards for attempted murder.

That's a great point and I agree whole-heartedly. Obviously you could never try someone for attempted murder for being drunk; at least not now. But I get your point. It is a weapon.
And I've been drunk once...maybe twice.
