Okay, you asked for it. You better have been thinking about this one, because I did kind of give you a heads up (since I couldn't figure this whole thing out...I need a book on Posting for Dummies). What are your views on removing the words "One Nation Under God" from the Pledge of Allegiance?

These words [“under God”] will remind Americans that despite our great physical strength we must remain humble. They will help us to keep constantly in our minds and hearts the spiritual and moral principles which alone give dignity to man, and upon which our way of life is founded. - President Eisenhower, 1954
So it wasn't long ago that these words were added; and with good intention. But today, there are more people that declare themselves atheist than ever. Our country is moving away from religion; albeit slowly. I believe in a separation of church and state. That is absolute. The government should give citizens their rights to worship anyone, anything, or nothing as they wish. But no one should be subject to any kind of "annoying influence" if you know what I mean. You should be able to worship as you wish as long as you don't impose your views on other people. That being said, we have to practice tolerance. If you don't like something, ignore it. So in regards to "under God" from the Pledge, as of today, I would leave it up to the schools to decide. Allow two versions. The schools that chose to leave "under God" in the Pledge should inform the parents and allow them to discuss it with their children. They can tell them not to say it or to say it. As of now, I think that's the best option.

"Separation of Church and state"...blah blah blah. I'm so tired of hearing about it. It's been here since the beginning. All I need to put here is the first paragraph from the Declaration of Independence:
And that's all I got to say about that....

OK, this makes sense, to an extent. There are holes. How do you deal with the school that bans the words "One Nation Under God", but has a student who refuses to leave the words out. Under School laws, this could be considered grounds for Detention, Suspension, or even Expulsion. Now the parent comes back and wants to sue the school. Is this the case where other students need to just "suck it up" and "deal with it", or, will the school have the legal right to suspend the student who refuses to leave this phrase out? Just as they may not be required to speak the phrase, will they have the option?

Goes back to the recent story about the school that made the kids read a book called "Two Princes". Now you can pretty much figure out the premise of THAT book. Now why if schools aren't allowed to mention a religion that is against it...are they allowed to show the OTHER point of view. And tell me why again schools are giving lessons on Islam and STILL not allowed to talk about Christianity?

::)Ok here is my thing, about this crap. I think that they should leave it in there. Here my reasoning....While i was in school there were plenty of times where kids would say the Pledge of Allegiance and not say it at the end. Some kids were being funny about it, and i think that some really didn't like saying that. Some of those people are best friends of mine and it was just a preference that they had, not that there is anything wrong with that. (lol inside joke for some of you people that know it ) >:(Now i got a bone to pick with the parents that want to come back to the school and sue the school, which by the way is the dumbest thing in the world. Its like the thing with the meaningless lawsuits that tie up our court system. Why would you waste other people's time with something that has been going on for God knows how long. Just leave it in the school system and if the kids don't want to say it, then they don't have to say it, SIMPLE AS THAT!!!!Oh yeah and these schools that are teaching Islam, really need to get a fucking clue, a slap in face, and go find a huge rusty nail to sit on and spin!! (Sorry i got a little carried away..........you know what I'm not sorry. THAT JUST THE WAY IT IS!)

Ha! I love you Reub....not in that way though. Not that there's anything wrong with that. I see your point and agree with you. It's all about tolerance. People need to be able to tolerate one another. That's part of growing up and maturing into an adult. Like how I tolerate a certain person I work with...even though I wish death upon them.
