Get off your ass. Eat well. Seriously. That's it. I will not be corrupted by the pharmaceutical companies that release these drugs that are less effective than diet and exercise. Nothing solves the majority of health problems better. No drugs. No greedy politicians who take money from these drug companies. I will take the power away from these companies and preach the importance of diet and exercise. Of course, it's within everyone's right to eat and do what they want. But if they rely on drugs to "attempt" to solve their problems, they will only be feeding these companies with the money the need to push these placebos on more people. We need to end the ignorance that people have on diet and nutrition. Or just give them a good kick in the ass.

I like your plan. Another contributing factor to cost of health care is the trial lawyers of America. Doctors are so afraid of being sued for every little thing that malpractice insurance has gone up thus affecting medical care costs. Also, if it weren't for the cost of caring for illegals the cost may perhaps be lower. The doctor cares for an illegal who can't pay so the cost is passed on to his patients that can pay.

I should also add that I do support socialized health care. I don't know all the details nor do I have a detailed plan in mind. But the idea that everyone deserves good health care is important. We can look to other countries that have this (Canada, England) and correct the downfalls of their systems (long waits).
Where would the money come? Look at my other posts: The Fair Tax, legalizing marijuana, increasing taxes on drugs (i.e. alcohol and tobacco), tightening up the black market, making budget cuts on unnecessary institutions (the FCC), stopping the war!
It's possible to get this done. We just need to keep in mind it's a nation wide change that needs to take place. Politicians think that they need to concentrate on one change at a time. Wrong. We need to change many things because one thing effects another. Just like physics ;D
As I said, I don't have a detailed plan. But I'll be sure that we get the right people together to figure it out. We'll consider all the consequences and how one thing effects another. We'll come up with the most sound plan to insure the American people are taken care of.
And the malpractice suits? We give the patient an option. They can either have free medical care and not be able to sue. Or they can pay for it themselves and would then be able to sue. (Thanks to 42jeff for the idea) But there are obviously faults with this also. It's something to consider. So feel free to discuss and maybe we can come up with a better idea.
Illegal immigrants? You don't get routine medical care. Only emergency, and you pay for it. You can't afford it? Hmmm...then what? Should we hold them until they do? Like a hospital jail? Force them to work it off? I'm not too sure. But that should just be visiting foreigners. *see my immigration posts*

Does anybody remember HMO's? No demsul...not HOmos...HMOs....
Managed healthcare. Sure. It would be wonderful to have every CITIZEN of the United States with free healtcare. But then as has been mentioned, where do those NONcitizens here in the US fit in? I'm sure they'll get it too. It's just that they won't have to foot the bill for it.
And speaking of footing the bill. Where exactly will all this funding come from? And I still stand by my option for people to opt out of being able to sue for malpractice if they take the free healthcare. Of course...that doesn't stop the ER doctors from getting sued everyonce in a while by somebody who's not going to pay their own bill anyway.
GRRRR....dangit.

I saw on the news that the "wonderful" free health care system in Canada (British Colombia) has to send women to the US to have their premature babies because the system in Canada has no room for them. I kinda tuned it out after that... I also saw where the wonderful system in Cuba ain't so wonderful. Showed smuggled video of the real hospitals in Cuba and not the Michale Moore tour. On another note, no health care system is free.

"No health care system is free"? What did you mean by that?
Jeff, I already answered the money issue above. I believe it's not just changing the health care system. If we change many, many....many, many things that can be made better in this country, we can find the money.

That it's paid for by high taxes. So in essence, it's not "free."

Right. So if it's paid by taxes and other revenue, then it's equal. Everyone can have equal health care.

But who is going to pay all the taxes? Certainly not all the illegals who will/are sucking on the health care teat.
