I was watching the Dem debate tonight (or yesterday or whatever - what time is it?) and it got me thinking of some of the questions that were asked.
First off, a scenario: we have the #3 man in Al Qaeda in custody and we know a bomb will go off in 3 days on American soil, would I allow torture to get the city out of him? My answer is that I will do ANYTHING to protect American citizens. That man has no rights here as a terrorist. None. My first priority is the welfare of the American people, everyone else is second (or third...). So, maybe that answers that question. Edwards said that "the idea that the United States of America would hold anybody without the right to a hearing undermines everything that we represent." Again, these people are terrorists. They cut off our heads in their country and people raise a stink for us not giving them cake for dessert?! These people are savages! They deserved worse! They deserve to be living in their own shit and piss and beaten daily! Or just killed if we have no use for them. What undermines what this country stands for is the fact that the American people are paying for their good treatment and their TV and well-balanced meals. Edwards's comment was a response to whether Guantanamo Bay should be shut down. I don't know enough about it to decide, but I do know that this "well treatment" of these savages needs to stop. Those pictures taken of Iraqi prisoners in 2003 was nothing. If I were president, I would have slapped those soldiers' wrists. They cut off our heads and we take stupid pics of them. Come on!
Would I advocate the use of nuclear energy? I like Obama's answer and I agree with him. If it is absolutely safe and well-protected, then I will not say no. But there would have to be a great amount of research and protection that goes in to it.
Should the drinking age be lowered to 18? If you read my other posts, you'll see that I'm not big on drinking. But I do believe that if you're old enough to give up your life for this country, you're old enough to drink. We just have to ensure that responsibility is being taught. And the consequences for drinking and driving will be severe.
Kucinich said that the voting age should be lowered to 16. That is an awful idea. I don't believe I became an "adult" until I was around 24 or so. Although that's just me, I think the majority of the population makes more sound and justified and responsible decisions when they're in their 20s. 18 may be too young (for me personally), but I would not try and change that to a higher age.
Alright, that's about it I guess.
